ISE Foundation Holidays Lesson

ISE Foundation Holidays Lesson

Here is a lesson plan to help students prepare for the ISE Foundation Holidays topic area. It is an integrated skills lesson that includes speaking and listening conversation practice, as well as a reading and writing task. It is also a good revision exercise to use in the weeks before the exam :)

How to use the ISE Foundation Holidays Lesson

The lesson starts with a picture of a group of a camping holiday. Brainstorm with the students what they can see in the picture and what the different people are doing. The students then use the words to form questions about the picture, imagining they were on this holiday. They can then ask and answer these questions with their partner, using the picture and their imagination to answer the questions. Monitor their work and you might want to ask the students to demonstrate to the class as well.

In the second part of the lesson, there is another picture of a beach scene. Students imagine they were on this holiday and ask and answer questions again, but this time without the prompts. After this, they read a letter about the holiday and answer gist questions about it. Then they have to fill in the blanks in the letter – all are adjectives and this is designed to expand their vocabulary. You could brainstorm some ideas for positive adjectives before they do the activity e.g. great, amazing, fantastic, etc.

Finally, the students use the letter as a model for their own letter about a holiday. There is a planning stage and students are encouraged to edit their work when they finish. You can also ask them to review their partner’s writing.
